Though the thought of 'Alias' returning does carry an wave of excitment, I'm not sure what ABC are realistically hoping to achieve by bringing it back (accept for $$$), even if it's only at the discussion/rumor stage. Like you, I would welcome a new, engaging and smart spy drama that's not tied to Alias. 'Undercovers' could have been that drama – and it might still be in its own comedic way. But please, no Alias reboot.

Plus, I'm still working my way through my very gradual Alias rewatch, so for selfish reasons I'd also appreciate it if ABC didn't reboot the original series any time soon!

So far this season, we have USA coming out with “Covert Affairs” and Bad Robot bringing us “Undercovers”, but both lean toward the comedic side, which, along with NBC's “Chuck”, means 3 spy-comedies. Don't get me wrong, I like “Chuck” just fine, but wassup with all the comedy? “Alias” wasn't comedy, and I think that ABC, should they choose to throw their hat in the spy ring again, ought to play it straight so that viewers have a choice.

ABC's constant tinkering pooched “Alias” the first time around, but bringing back a neutered version for 2010 would not redeem the network in the eyes of “Alias” believers like me. There is no way they will bring back the original cast, let alone JJ Abrams, therefore, any new endeavour should not be tied to the “Alias” franchise. That does not, however, mean that a clever new spy drama would not be welcome.
