‘Undercovers’ Picked Up by NBC

JJ. Abrams new spy drama, Undercovers, has been picked up by NBC.

I had been following developments on Undercovers fairly closely in 2009 but for one reason or another it fell off my radar. I’m interested to see what Abrams and company will do with this show – it’s definitely a change from his more recent material. I can’t say that I’m as eager for it to start as I am with other projects involving Bad Robot Productions, but I’ll give it a chance.

Above you can find (what I believe to be) the first official promotional picture for the show featuring both leads, Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

5 minute trailer up and running!

I wish they would ease up on the "edy" part of dramedy and just go with the drama. I gather from comments I've read on the internet that this will be largely stand-alone as well. It's like they want to filter out the elements that made "Alias" such a ride, and leave viewers with the leftover bits, like an updated "Hart to Hart". I don't know if it's the sour economy that makes networks think that everything has to be a lighthearted romp right now, but I like my spy shows life or death.
  • Sorry Page, I had to dig your comment out of moderation.

I like the look of the trailer (better than my expectations), but I'm still not keen on the 'stand-alone' business. Hopefully it's all a long con. :)
